Lauren Hill Dies Of Brain Cancer - What Is DIPG? Lauren Hill died of a brain cancer called DIPG or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. It's a brain tumor that starts near the brain stem and where our site, eating, and breathing functions are located. Because of this it was said to be inoperable. There was a clinical trial by Dana-Farber/Boston Children's hospital. A girl named Haley Olson was the first patient in 2012; she was diagnosed with DIPG in late 2011. She managed to survive to September of 2013. I have not found more to provide detail on this but that she was able to hang on for a year and two years total was at least notable. Stay tuned.
